Jingyu Bai
1988 (Chine)
Biography
Through his monumental sculptures in mirror-polished steel, Jingyu Bai creates works in which light, reflections and geometry constantly transform our perception of the artwork and the space around it.
Born in China in 1988, Jingyu Bai creates work centred on monumental metal sculpture. A graduate of the China Academy of Art in Hangzhou, the artist developed an interest at an early stage in the relationships between material, space and visual perception, through works in which the precision of the lines interacts with the power of the volumes.
Created mainly in mirror-polished stainless steel, his sculptures are distinguished by their dynamic geometric constructions and their ability to interact with their surroundings. Light, reflections, architecture and even the viewer’s movement play a full part in the experience of the work, which evolves according to the viewer’s perspective and the conditions of perception.
Through his creations, Jingyu Bai explores the notions of balance, tension and movement.
His open compositions, which are often airy despite their monumental scale, reflect an exploration of void, the flow of lines, and the integration of sculpture into contemporary space.
Jingyu Bai’s work forms part of a contemporary approach to monumental sculpture, in which technical mastery of metal is combined with a broader reflection on the environment and visual interaction. His works have been featured in several international exhibitions and projects dedicated to contemporary art and public sculpture.
