Biography

A leading figure in American contemporary art, Peter Saul has been creating irreverent and provocative works since the 1960s, blending social satire, popular culture, and painterly virtuosity.


Peter Saul is an American painter born on August 16, 1934 in San Francisco, California.

His work has connections to pop art, surreal art and expressionism. He has been recognized since the 1960s. He has produced more than 100 works, and the number of works is still growing. His work can be found in the world’s leading museums and in the Mary Boone and Michael Werner galleries.

Some of his works are also exhibited in the museum “Les Abattoirs” in Toulouse. He is one of the first American painters of “Pop Art” with Warhol, Lichtenstein, Rauschenberg, Rosenquist, Wesselman and Dine.
