Portrait de Francis Guerrier

Biography

Born in 1964 in Marseille, Francis Guerrier grew up in an artistic world: his father and grandfather were painters, his mother  was a ceramist… His sensitivity to art comes from his roots. Barely out of his teens, he left Provence for Paris where he began by attending the Cours Florent to become an actor. But it is towards directing that he will first turn before embracing a career in the creation of sets and scenography with his “Master” Pierre-Henri Magnin. He created his own company in 1989 and surrounded himself with professionals who allowed him to approach and master various construction materials (wood, glass, aluminum, steel…) and the contemporary tools of stage design: sound and light installations, video, laser…
Ten years later, tired of feeling trapped in this field of creation at the service of companies, he gave up his company and decided to become a sculptor.
Today, back in Eygalières, in the house where he grew up and where he built a huge workshop bathed in light, he devotes himself essentially to the realization of sculptures in black steel whose curved and slender forms are inspired by nature. If he continues to realize sets and scenographies in order to satisfy his passion for the theater, it is by sculpting that he feels free and today he is attached to the creation of monumental works yet so light and elegant.
